Ambrose was studying his reflection in the bathroom mirror while brushing his teeth when the shrill exclamation came. His younger brother, Tim, had spent the day out with old primary school friends down the street.
“Where the f- did that clown come from?!” His brother’s voice came through the bathroom wall and the Gryffindor’s lips curled into a grin.
While Tim had been out and about, Ambrose and Francis had been busy. His father had re-explained his summer Astronomy homework so he could attempt it, and then the two of them had investigated the loft of the Biggleswade house, in search of the older Pepper’s books.
The loft was full of all sorts of weird and wonderful things. Ambrose realised on climbing up the ladder behind his father that there were a lot of new boxes stacked to one side, all labelled and closed, which belonged to his mother. Francis was slowly in the process of packing up everything to take to Claire’s extended family.
As father and son rifled through remaining boxes, Ambrose had rediscovered a familiar, yet forgotten part of childhood. A Christmas present to his younger brother, Timothy, that had given him nightmares. Instead of throwing the thing away, one of their parents had put it up in the loft instead.
It was time they were reunited!
“Language, Timothy!” Exclaimed their father from the foot of the stairs. Ambrose tried not to splatter toothpaste everywhere as Tim flung the offending clown teddy at him from the bathroom door, laughing.
